Congratulations to Leo Escano (Terry Fox Laboratory), for receiving a Canada Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral Program Award (CGS-D) from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

The award is tied to his project titled, "Elucidating the mechanisms of immune escape in Cytogenetically Normal AMLs.”

The CIHR CGS-D provides special recognition and support to students who are pursuing a doctoral degree in a health-related field in Canada.

Congratulations to Emily Yeh (Terry Fox Laboratory), for receiving a Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's Award (CGS-M) from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

The award is tied to her project titled, "Investigating contrasting germline mutations: SETD2 associated neurodevelopment syndromes", which looks at epigenetic dysregulation and transcriptional changes associated with two SETD2 neurodevelopmental syndromes in addition to modeling the mutations in cerebral organoids.

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of Dr. Connie Eaves, distinguished scientist at BC Cancer’s Terry Fox Laboratory and professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and the School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC. 

We are pleased to share that Katherine Baillie (Stirling Lab) and Dr. Athena Phoa (Jiang Lab) have received recognition at the BCCRI Rising Stars Awards.

Katherine Baillie's work on "Investigating dominant negative mutations in DNA2 as a model for targeted cancer therapy" earned her the Outstanding In-Person Poster Presentation Award.

Congratulations to postdoctoral fellow Dr. Kwangjin Park, Hoodless Lab, for being awarded a highly competitive fellowship from the MOGAM Science Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Park is one of ten recipients to receive the fellowship, a testament to his significant research contributions.

We are excited to announce that Dr. Fumio Takei has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Bernhard Cinader Award, recognizing exceptional leadership and mentorship in the field of Immunology among Canadian researchers.

The Canadian Society of Immunology (CSI) Award Committee unanimously applauded Dr. Takei's outstanding scientific achievements, in line with the award's criteria aimed at celebrating remarkable contributions.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Florian Kuchenbauer, distinguished scientist of Terry Fox Laboratory (Kuchenbauer Lab) and associate professor at University of British Columbia, has been honored with the Outstanding Academic Performance (OAP) award from the UBC Faculty of Medicine in 2022.

Students of Dr. Xiaoyan Jiang, Andrew Wu and Ryan Yen (Collings Stevens Laboratory), along with a team of researchers, have published a paper in Leukemia Journal titled, "Identification of Multivariable microRNA and Clinical Biomarker Panels to Predict Imatinib Response in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia at Diagnosis."
