Practice-based research is where front-line providers, patient and family partners, and other collaborators engage to tackle complex, real-world challenges that directly affect patient care and experience. April 10, 2024 is Indigenous Nurses Day – an opportunity to recognize the irreplaceable role Indigenous nurses play in British Columbia’s (B.C.) and Canada’s health care system. BC Cancer’s Indigenous nurses provide culturally inclusive health care in communities across the province and are a significant source of comfort and safety for many Indigenous Peoples who access our systems of care.

Insights from a BC Cancer Practice-Based Research Challenge Team to Understanding the Lived Experience of Individuals with Late Radiation Associated Dysphagia

The BC Cancer Practice-Based Research Challenge is an innovative approach that bridges the gap between clinical practice and research by empowering teams of point-of-care clinical staff to identify challenging clinical issues and find evidence-based answers through research. This annual program offers nursing and allied health professionals with limited, or no research experience the opportunity to learn basic research skills while conducting their own project.
