Chaman Akoo, RN, BScN (Hons.), MScN received an honours nursing baccalaureate degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 2013. Initially drawn to nursing for its lack of geographical boundaries, Chaman wished to pursue a career in public health, which led to a formative stint working with rural Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan. Later, in what turned into a retrospective stroke of luck, Chaman was approached with the opportunity to specialize in oncology. This chance encounter changed the trajectory of her career – having opened the avenue for countless meaningful clinical experiences over the past decade working with patients throughout their cancer journey in both ambulatory and inpatient settings. Chaman completed her MScN from the University of Ottawa in 2022, with a focus on qualitative research and advanced practice nursing. Subsequent to this, Chaman worked as a Clinical Practice Consultant in the Clinical Policy Office in Fraser Health. Currently, she is the inaugural Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for BC Cancer, Abbotsford.
Her professional interest includes advancing equity and quality within cancer care, especially as it pertains to palliative care. She is also interested in advancing nursing practice through research, education and mentorship.
