Shelby Cender is a MND student at UBC and a recipient of the 2023 Freybe’s Award in Nutrition and Dietetics. She previously obtained her BSc from the University of Alberta in Nutrition and Food Sciences in 2015 and returned to school to become a dietitian. Her experience in research includes previously working as a research assistant with the Nutrition and Eating Behaviour Lab at UBC and performing data entry at the University of Alberta. Shelby current works at UBC as a teaching assistant and as a Peer Counsellor with the Student Recovery Centre. Her personal interests include weightlifting, film photography, hiking, and crochet. She is intrigued with the gut microbiome and hopes to educate on this area in her professional practice.
