Maria is a solution-oriented researcher with teaching and professional experience in public, private, and community organizations. She completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of British Columbia, where she specialized in social gerontology, qualitative methodologies, care and social support. Maria advocates for a multidisciplinary and team-based approach to find innovative solutions to improve health care services through research inspired by practice-based and patient-centered clinical problems. She currently has a postdoctoral appointment with the UBC Department of Sociology, where she is working in the project “Concepts and methods in research on care and caring: examining the interface of the public and private spheres”.
