Read the study published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, co-authored by Dr. Jennifer Telford, medical director of the BC Cancer Colon Screening Program, analyzing data from the BC Colon Screening Program. The study found that a positive fecal immunochemical test (FIT) performed after colonoscopy, before the individual was due for surveillance colonoscopy or FIT re-screening, was associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. These findings help inform clinical decision-making when FIT testing occurs outside recommended screening intervals and support the Colon Screening Program’s policy to offer repeat colonoscopy to individuals with a positive FIT despite a recent colonoscopy.
