A Summer of Learning, Sharing and New Perspectives
The 2026 PHS Summer Student Series wrapped up on August 13 with an interactive guest talk by Dr. Diana Cukierman from Simon Fraser University. Through activities and open discussion, students explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in research and everyday life, considering its opportunities and limitations, and the different perspectives people bring to conversations about AI.

A new study published in Genetics in Medicine examines how systemic barriers in health care shape Indigenous families’ views about genomic medicine in British Columbia. Dr. Lee has served in an interim leadership role for several years and has been part of the department (former Cancer Control Research) for over three decades. His long-standing involvement provides deep institutional knowledge and continuity, which will be invaluable as the department builds on its strengths and expands its research portfolio.
