Our Focus

Population Health Sciences (formerly known as Cancer Control Research) conducts internationally recognized research across the cancer control continuum, including cancer etiology, prevention and surveillance; screening and early detection; diagnosis, treatment and supportive care; and rehabilitation and survivorship.

This includes research into the epidemiological, biological, behavioral, and social determinants of cancer risk; cancer surveillance; evidence-based medicine, clinical trials, and real world effectiveness; and the application of biostatistics, data science, and artificial intelligence to improve health outcomes and inform cancer control. It also includes research in health economics, health services, and policy to assess the value, delivery, and impact of cancer care and survivorship.

The Department is a critical part of the Learning Health System in BC. It directly supports BC Cancer by integrating population-based research within BC’s comprehensive cancer control program.
