Congratulations to BC Cancer researchers who were awarded federal grants through the 2023 Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
Dr. François Bénard (Molecular Oncology) and Dr. Arman Rahmim (Integrative Oncology) were awarded $6,227,953 through the CFI Innovation Fund for their project, “Infrastructure for Accelerated In Vivo Molecular Imaging and Theranostic Research.” The CFI Innovation Fund provides continued investments in infrastructure, across the full spectrum of research, from the most fundamental to applied through to technology development.
Dr. Zu-hua Gao (Integrative Oncology) was awarded $150,000 through the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) for his project, “Hydrogen-based adhesive artificial mucosa (HAAM): a novel versatile platform for cancer therapy and prevention.” The JELF is a critical strategic investment tool designed to help institutions attract and retain the best researchers.
Additionally, BC Cancer researchers collaborated on the following successful CFI Innovation Fund projects led by other institutions:
- Dr. Marco Marra (Genome Sciences Centre), Dr. Steven Jones (Genome Sciences Centre) and Dr. Kasmintan Schrader (Molecular Oncology), CGEn – Canada’s national platform for genome sequencing and analysis
- Dr. Peter Stirling (Terry Fox Laboratory), TRaC: Therapies for Rare Cancers
CFI typically provides funding up to a maximum of 40 per cent of a project’s total cost.
