Dr. Watson began his medical training at the University of Cambridge and St. Thomas' Hospital and completed specialty training in Pathology at the University of Manitoba, where he served on faculty from 1993. He joined the BC Cancer in 2005 to become the Director of Biobanking Biospecimen Research Services and more recently Chief Physician of the Vancouver Island Centre in 2009. Dr. Watson has a long-standing interest in the molecular pathology and biomarkers of breast cancer. His laboratory has pioneered work on S100A7 and its role in breast cancer progression.
Dr. Peter H. Watson is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, BC Cancer and the University of British Columbia and he is currently director of both the BCCA Biobanking Biospecimen Research Services (BBRS) and the UBC Pathology Office of Biobank Education and Research.
In addition to directing or co-directing the BBRS Program and the Manitoba Breast Tumour Bank, he leads or co-leads provincial and national efforts to foster tumour bank and other biobank resources for translational research including the BC BioLibrary Platform, the UBC Pathology Office of Biobank Education and Research OBER, and the Canadian Tumour Repository Network CTRNet.
