AYAs with HMs have treatment plans and side effects that interrupt typical developmental processes. These barriers may impact their mental well-being and their overall quality of life. We aim to understand and identify the mental health outcomes and experiences of AYAs with HMs in British Columbia.
Funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, this study will explore the mental health experiences and mental health outcomes of AYAs with HMs in British Columbia. Using a sequential mixed methods design, one-to-one interviews with AYAs with HMs will explore their mental health challenges, coping strategies, and experiences with psychosocial support services. Then a retrospective longitudinal analysis study will assess mental healthcare utilization and prescription medication will be conducted. Findings from both phases will be triangulated to construct a list of priorities to enhance mental healthcare for AYA with HM.
