Only about half of breast cancer cases can be explained by known risk factors, hampering prevention efforts. Breast density is a strong risk factor, and recent evidence indicates that assessing changes in density may be more accurate for predicting future breast cancer. The overall aim of this project is to further our understanding of how changes in breast density may influence breast cancer risk among postmenopausal women. This project uses data from multiple ongoing population-based studies in Canada, and contributes to the health of Canadian women by identifying opportunities to improve cancer prevention strategies, with the ultimate goal of reducing cancer burden.
