Poor diet quality and physical inactivity are major contributors to illness and death in Canada. To address this, we need systems-level change to create environments that support healthy diets and physical activity. HEAL examines how factors like access to healthy food and neighborhood design influence how we eat and move among diverse populations across Canada's ten provinces. This five-year project leverages a network of national resources, analyzing data from over 130,000 individuals and combining it with environmental information. This study will be the most comprehensive evaluation of the retail food environment and the largest resource of dietary and physical activity data in Canada. HEAL will provide crucial evidence to inform interventions that promote healthier eating and activity environments, leading to improved population health.
