The Office of Research Administration is within the portfolio of the office of the Senior Executive Director, Research. The  Grants Officers of the Office of Research Administration (ORA) are dedicated to providing top-quality administrative support to the research community of BC Cancer. Enabling excellence in research is our goal. 

 Grants Officers can assist you in obtaining institutional signatures for a grant application or letters of support, ensuring required compliance certificates are in place for research involving human subjects, bio-specimens, animals, biohazardous, radiation materials, setting up research project accounts, transferring research funds to BC Cancer collaborators and more.  

Contact an ORA Grants Officer if you need assistance with any of the following tasks:

  • Finding funding or developing research grants;
  • Obtaining an institutional signature for a grant application;
  • Obtaining a compliance certificate for research involving human subjects, bio-specimens, animals, biohazardous, radiation materials;
  • Financial Conflict of Interest compliance;
  • Set-up & closure of  a research project account;
  • Financial signing registry limits;
  • Transferring research funds to a BC Cancer collaborator or to another institution;
  • Sourcing research funding opportunities; 

ORA manages the pre and post award phases of grant-funded research projects hosted at BC Cancer

ORA is affiliated with the University of British Columbia and is the first point of contact for BC Cancer’s UBC appointed researchers

 The following  UBC departments can assist with other research-related questions:

  • SPARC: Internal review, strategic proposal development, research-related workshops and information sessions
  • ORS– Point Grey Campus: Research support for faculty members located at UBC’s Point Grey campus
  • ORS – Okanagan: Research support for faculty members located at UBC’s Okanagan campus
  • University-Industry Liaison Office: Contracted research involving industry or government partners, knowledge mobilization, material transfer agreements
