Research Interests:
Self Renewal of Hematopoietic Stem CellsGene Expression Profiling
I am interested in purifying a population of hematopoietic stem cells and performing gene expression analysis to determine the molecular mechanisms that govern hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) self-renewal.
I am also interested in developing external growth factor conditions that differentially alter the frequency with which HSCs make this choice. Starting with an ~40% pure population of HSCs, we can push the cells to differentiate or self-renew and then perform gene expression profiling to determine the genes involved in this process.
Finally, outside of my direct research, I have a keen interest in promoting science literacy and was one of the coordinators for the UBC Let's Talk Science Partnership Program and am currently the president of the BCCRC grad student and post-doc organization, GrasPods .
