Research Role: Graduate Student/Postdoctoral Fellow Alumnus
Education: BSc (Genetics), University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, 1998
PhD, Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, University of Glasgow, UK, 2002

    Research Interests:

  • Bioinformatic and functional analysis of endogenous retrovirus elements involved in the transcriptional regulation of human genes.
  • My research currently focuses on the contribution of an endogenous retrovirus long terminal repeat (LTR) promoter to transcriptional regulation of the beta 1,3-galactosyltransferase gene. I am currently characterising expression from this promoter in a range of human tissue types. Long-term aims of the project include functional analysis of the promoter, and identification of protein-DNA interactions responsible for tissue-specific gene expression.
