Research Interests:
Bioinformatic and functional analysis of endogenous retrovirus elements involved in the transcriptional regulation of human genes.
My research currently focuses on the contribution of an endogenous retrovirus long terminal repeat (LTR) promoter to transcriptional regulation of the beta 1,3-galactosyltransferase gene. I am currently characterising expression from this promoter in a range of human tissue types. Long-term aims of the project include functional analysis of the promoter, and identification of protein-DNA interactions responsible for tissue-specific gene expression.
