Research Programs within Molecular Oncology
Breast Cancer Program
The breast cancer program aims to integrate fundamental and clinical research in breast cancer and to provide a supportive framework for its investigators to address questions across this spectrum. The program was created in 2005 and has three founding investigator laboratories. The program will grow in 2006 with the addition of an investigator in Cancer Bioinformatics.
The program is growing rapidly and looking for talented doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. In addition to the work of individual investigator labs, two key technology initiatives of the program are (i) the development of a high content cell based screening core, to underpin genetics and chemical genomics approaches to complex pathway analysis in tumours (ii) the establishment of ES cell and mouse genetic based models for basic processes in breast cancer. The program is also developing access to tissue based resources for translational research, including a frozen breast tumour archive of 4,500 specimens.
