High School Programs
The BC Cancer Agency′s Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre (DRC) opened in Victoria in July 2003 and is the first cancer research centre on Vancouver Island. This state-of-the-art Research Centre is supported solely by the BC Cancer Foundation through generous contributions by donors. A research facility of this calibre offers many opportunities to the surrounding community, and so the DRC is pleased to be able to offer High School Programs that are geared towards Grade 11 and 12 students.
These programs have been designed to offer high school students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines and learn the latest techniques being used today in the fight against cancer.
BCCA Cancer Education for Educators
After many requests from teachers to put a retreat day together for them, we have developed this event for teachers. The BCCA Cancer Education for Educators has been designed to offer teachers of all Grade Levels the opportunity to visit the BCCA Vancouver Island, Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre and to participate in sessions lead by leading resident Doctors and Researchers in their fields. In addition to learning about the latest cancer understandings and developments in treatment, the sessions will offer some information about programs and resources offered at the BCCA that may be of help to you in dealing with colleagues, students and families affected by cancer. This includes information packages about our High School Programs, Cancer Prevention and Youth in Philanthropy activities.
Due to the success of the day and the feedback we received from teachers we are making plans to offer this event to teachers again in the fall of 2009, on October 23rd. This event is open to all teachers in British Columbia.
If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, please register with Ann-Marie Braithwaite at 250-519-5732 or email
