Flow chart for training and use of the discriminant function (DF)
  • From the set of Normal biopsies, thresholds were defined to recognize cells which are within Normal Limits.
  • For discriminant function (DF) training (shown in Figure 1), only cells from Normal sections which are greater that 1.5 standard deviations from the Normal cell population means were used.
  • A cell by cell DF was trained only on cells from sections graded as Invasive Cancer and sections graded as Normal was created.
  • This DF classifies cells as being similar to the cells from the Invasive Cancer sections or not.
