Stuart is Co-Director of the Canadian Centre for Applied Research in Cancer Control (ARCC) along with Dr. Jeffrey Hoch. ARCC´s mission is to improve cancer control and the delivery of cancer care through interdisciplinary, PanCanadian leadership in health economics, services, policy and ethics research, education, and knowledge translation. The Centre represents a unique inter-provincial and interdisciplinary initiative based on a collaboration between academics, clinicians and decision-makers at the BC Cancer Agency, the University of British Columbia, Cancer Care Ontario, the University of Toronto and the Institute of Clinical and Evaluative Sciences. The Centre is the first of its kind in the world, bringing together some of Canada´s leading social science, population health and clinical researchers, and decision-makers. ARCC will be home to over 40 researchers, initially based in BC and Ontario.

Stuart is also a Senior Scientist at the British Columbia Cancer Agency, an Associate Professor in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia, and a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar. Previously he held positions at Monash University, Australia, and the University of York, UK. Stuart has a Doctorate in Economics and MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, and a BA in Economics from the University of Leeds. His research interests include the economics of cancer control, priority setting methods, health-related quality of life, and health econometrics. He has published over 120 papers on health economics and co-authored a book titled Efficiency Measurement in Health and Health Care. Stuart has acted as a consultant for over fifty health agencies on four continents, including the World Health Organization.
